The Boston Red Sox overcame a 3-0 deficit to defeat the Tampa Bay Rays 4-3 at Fenway Park on Sunday afternoon.
J.D. Martinez went 4-4 and had two RBI. Martinez raised his batting average to .330. Sandy Leon had the go ahead RBI in the bottom of the eighth inning.
Rick Porcello turned in another solid performance on the mound. He allowed three runs on seven hits in 7.2 innings. Porcello didn’t issue a walk and struck out six. Craig Kimbrel came in the game in the eighth inning with the score tied. Kimbrel (1-1) got out of a jam in the eighth inning and another one in the ninth to pick up the victory.
The Rays won the first two game of the series and game in on an eight game winning streak. The Red Sox (20-7) will start a three game series with the Kansas City Royals on Monday night. If the Red Sox win on Monday they will set a franchise record with 19 wins in the month of April.
