Mookie Betts hit three home runs to lead the Boston Red Sox to a 5-4 win over the Kansas City Royals on Wednesday afternoon at Fenway Park.
It is the second time this season Betts has hit three homers in a game and the fourth time in his career. He passes Ted Williams for most three home run games in franchise history. Betts also hit a single to go along with his home runs. J.D. Martinez also had two hits, including a two run home run. Betts is hitting .365, while Martinez is hitting .343. Xander Bogaerts got one hit and is hitting .367.
Drew Pomeranz recorded a quality start after a rough beginning to his outing. Pomeranz (1-1) allowed three runs on eight hits and two walks, while striking out three in six innings. Joe Kelly struck out two in the seventh inning, Matt Barnes struck out two more in the eighth, while Craig Kimbrel struck out the side in the ninth inning to earn his eighth save of the season.
David Price will be on the mound when the Red Sox open a four game series against the Rangers on Thursday night at Texas.
