Giancarlo Stanton hit two homers to lead the New York Yankees to a 3-2 win over the Boston Red Sox on Tuesday night at Yankee stadium.
Stanton hit his homers in the second and fourth innings. The Red Sox battled back to fern the score on a run scoring single from Andrew Benintendi in the fifth inning and a Mookie Betts triple that tied things up at 2 in the top of the seventh.
Aaron Judge gave the Yankees a lead they wouldn’t give back when he hit a single that scored Neil Walker in the bottom of the eighth inning.
Both starters pitched very well despite getting a no decision. Luis Severino allowed two runs on six hits in six innings for the Yankees. Severino didn’t issue a walk and struck out 11. Drew Pomeranz allowed two runs on four hits and two walks, while striking out six in six innings for the Red Sox. Heath Hembree (2-1) struggled out of the pen for the Red Sox. He allowed one hit, two walks, and had a balk during his outing.
The Red Sox and Yankees are now tied at the top of the American League East standings with a 25-10 record. Rick Porcello will pitch Wednesday night in game two of the series.
