DEXTER–The Dexter Tigers used an efficient pitching performance from Trever Richards and a strong offensive day from Trever’s catcher and older brother Matt Richards to defeat Central 9-0 on Friday afternoon.
Trever Richards allowed four hits and only needed 62 pitches in his seven innings. Richards struck out two and didn’t issue a walk. He only got to a two ball count on one batter. Richards retired the final 11 batters he faced including getting the final six outs on only 12 pitches.
Dexter coach Chad Graffam said, “he (Trever Richards) throws strikes and that is why he threw today.”
The Tigers raced to 15 stolen bases. Matt Richards had five, Jacob Bickford and Trever Richards had three each, while Nate Richards, Matt Hanscome, Gage Stone, and Tyler Beem had one each.
Graffam said, “we were going to run until someone got thrown out.”
For the second straight game each player in the Tigers lineup reached base via a hit or a walk. Matt Richards reached base all four plate appearances with three hits, three RBI, two runs scored, and one walk. Beem reached base three times, including two hits. Trever Richards and Stone had two hits each. Hanscome reached base three times, while Bickford reached each of the first two innings.
Matt Richards said, “with everybody hitting one through nine, we are a tough team to beat.”
Dexter (6-3) outscored their opponents 28-1 in three games this week. Those opponents Mattanawcook and Central are both expected tournament teams. The Tigers will have three games next week, including Friday against George Stevens, that game can be heard live at Eastern Maine Sports starting at 4:25 PM on May 18th.
“We are pitching well, we are playing good defense,”Graffam said. “If we can keep getting timely hits we will be fine.”
Jacob Thibodeau allowed six runs on nine hits and four walks, while striking out four in five innings for the Red Devils. Gage Poulin had two of the four hits for Central. The Red Devils (3-6) will have big heal point worthy games next week against Greenville and Bangor Christian.
