Hanley Ramirez and J.D. Martinez combined for five RBI to lead the Boston Red Sox to a 5-4 win over the New York Yankees at Yankee Stadium on Thursday night.
The game was halted because of rain for 58 minutes in the fifth inning. Eduardo Rodriguez pitched five shutout innings for the Red Sox. He allowed one hit and three walks, while striking out eight.
The Red Sox held a 4-0 lead behind three RBI from Ramirez, including a solo homer in the fifth inning. The Yankees battled back to even the score at 4. The Red Sox bullpen combined to walk four.
Martinez solo homer in the top of the eighth inning gave the Red Sox a lead they would hold. Joe Kelly (2-0) worked out of trouble in the eighth inning. Craig Kimbrel retired the side in order in the ninth to record his 10th save of the season and 301st of his career.
