Rick Porcello (5-1) allowed five runs in six innings as the Boston Red Sox fell to the Oakland Athletics 6-5 on Monday night at Fenway Park.
Porcello gave up nine hits and threw 108 pitches. He also gave up two home runs.
J.D. Martinez and Rafael Devers each hit a home run. Martinez and Mookie Betts had two hits each, while Hanley Ramirez had two RBI.
Sean Manaea (5-4) earned the win for the Athletics. He allowed four runs (three earned) on eight hits and one walk, while striking out four. Manaea no hit the Red Sox in April.
Eduardo Rodriguez is scheduled to pitch in game two of the series on Tuesday night.
