At a banquet at the University of Maine in Orono, home of the 2018 America East baseball tournament, the conference announced their all-conference teams on Tuesday evening.
It was a great night for the home town Black Bears, as Danny Casals and Christopher Bec were both named to the first team, while Jeremy Pena and Hernen Sardinas were named to the second team. Freshman pitcher Matt Geoffrion made the conference all rookie team.
Casals hit .303 and led the team in homeruns with 13 and RBI with 42 in the 50 game regular season. Bec hit .304, with 8 homers and 24 RBI. Pena, who is taunted as a top three shortstop as a MLB draft prospect in all of college baseball hit .309 with 5 homers and 26 RBI. Sardinas came in at .303 with 6 homers and 35 RBI. Geoffrion made 16 appearances in his freshman season, with a 1-1 record and a 4.91 ERA. He added 29 strikeouts in 14 innings pitched.
Maine (18-32) opens the double elimination America East baseball tournament at Mahaney Diamond Wednesday morning at 11 a.m. against 29-23 Stony Brook.
