Maine wins 20th game, lives to play another day

In must win mode again, the Maine baseball team stayed alive at the America East Tournament Thursday night by defeating Albany 6-1 in an elimination game at Mahaney Diamond in Orono.

In a scoreless game in the bottom of the fourth, Maine came up with three runs on five hits highlighted by a Kevin Doody RBI single and a two run single by Jeremy Pena to make it 3-0. Josh Gurnack got one back in the top of the fifth for Albany with an RBI single to cut it to 3-1. The scoring was finished in the sixth and seventh, with Pasic doubling in a run in the sixth, and Danny Casals adding an RBI double in the seventh. The Bears also added a sacrifice fly RBI from Colin Ridley in that two run seventh.

Nick Silva (3-6) pitched well and got the win for Maine, allowing just one run, three hits, with four K’s in 6.0 innings. Cody Laweryson and Connor Johnson combined for 3.0 innings of scoreless relief. John Clatyon (4-5) took the loss for the Great Danes, allowing four runs, nine hits, with four strikeouts in 6.0 innings. Albany ends their season at 20-28.

Maine (20-33) will play Stony Brook for second time in three days Friday at 2:30 pm, this time the loser goes home. The Seawolves topped the Bears in the opening game of the tournament, 2-1 on Wednesday.
