Astros hold off Sox in series opener

Carlos Correa belted a two run homer to lift the Houston Astros to a 4-2 win over the Boston Red Sox at Minute Maid Park on Thursday night.

Andrew Benintendi had .two of the Red Sox six hits. Xander Bogaerts hit a double that scored two runs. Drew Pomeranz allowed four runs on six hits and two walks, while striking out five in five innings. Steven Wright pitched three scoreless innings of relief.

The Red Sox had two runners on base with Blake Swihart up as the go ahead run in the top of the ninth. Swihart flied out to center to end the game. Game two of the series will feature a great pitching matchup of Chris Sale and Garrit Cole on Friday night. Mookie Betts missed his fifth straight game with left side tightness. Dustin Pedroia was a late scratch from the lineup with knee soreness.
