BREWER, Me- The #2 seeded Brewer Witches baseball team found themselves in a pitchers duel on Thursday afternoon against the #10 John Bapst Crusaders. Brewer was able to get just enough offense to get past John Bapst 2-1 at Hennericg Field in Brewer in a Class B North quarterfinal.

Brewer (12-5) got an early run in the first. Kobe Rogerson led off with a single to right, stole second, then scored on two wild pitches by Bapst starter Alec Gagnon to make it 1-0. Rogerson was at it again in the third with a leadoff bunt single, was moved over to third on a Josiah Cyr single, then scored to make it 2-0 on a Levi Williamson single to left.

Cyr held down John Bapst to no hits and no base runners through the first five innings. The Crusaders finally broke through in the sixth, when Jon Archambautt singled to start the inning. Joe Murphy then struck out. Archambautt stole second, and Gagnon drove him in with an RBI single to center to cut it to 2-1. Cyr got out of the jam though by getting leadoff hitter Nick Lakeman to ground into a 1-4-3 double play. John Bapst had runners on first and second with one out in the seventh, but Cyr struck out Jack Dalton and Ethan Newcomb swinging to end it.

Cyr went the full 7.0 innings and got the win for Brewer, allowing one earned run, four hits, no walks, with nine strikeouts.
