J.D. Martinez smacked his major league leading 21st home run to lead the Boston Red Sox to a 4-2 win over the Chicago White Sox on Saturday afternoon at Fenway Park.
David Price allowed two runs in the first inning. Price shut down the White Sox after that. He pitched six innings, allowing only the two first inning runs on five hits and three walks, while striking out five.
Joe Kelly, Matt Barnes, and Craig Kimbrel combined to pitch three shutout innings. They struck out five and only allowed one hit. Kimbrel picked up his 20th save, Barnes his 15th hold, and Kelly his 12th hold.
Martinez and Christian Vazquez had two hits each. Jackie Bradley JR hit his third homer of the season, his first since April 20th and his first off a lefty since last season. The series will wrap up Sunday afternoon at 1:05 with Rick Porcello on the mound.
