Xander Bogaerts had two hits including a home run to lift the Boston Red Sox to a 2-1 win at Seattle on Thursday night.
David Price (8-4) out dueled Felix Hernandez in a battle of former Cy Young award winners. Price allowed one run on five hits in seven innings. He didn’t issue a walk and struck out seven.
The only run for the Mariners came in the bottom of the fifth inning as they evened the score. Bogaerts and the Sox responded quickly with the sixth inning homer.
Bogaerts, JD Martinez Rafael Devers, and Christian Vazquez had two hits each. Jackie Bradley JR reached base twice and had one RBI.
Joe Kelly and Craig Kimbrel each pitched a scoreless inning to close things out. Kimbrel recorded his 22nd save. The teams will play game two of a four game series Friday night with a James Paxton/Rick Porcello pitching matchup scheduled.
