Eduardo Escobar knocked in three runs Tuesday night, and the Minnesota Twins scored four runs in the eighth inning to defeat the Boston Red Sox 6-2 at Target Field in Minneapolis.
Rafael Devers staked the Sox to a 1-0 lead with a solo homer in the top of the sixth. Escobar then gave the Twins a 2-1 lead with a two run double in the bottom of the sixth. Boston tied it up 2-2 with an RBI single by Sandy Leon in the top of the eighth, before Escobar drilled one to left center that Jackie Bradley misplayed in the bottom half of the inning. Escobar got credit for an RBI, and another run scored on the error to make it 4-2. Robbie Grossman then chased in a pair of runs on a two run triple to put the game out of reach.
Devers and JD Martinez had a pair of hits for Boston, while Mookie Betts reached twice on walks. Chris Sale pitched well and got a no decision, allowing two earned runs, three hits, with just one walk, and 11 strikeouts in a 7.0 inning effort. Robby Scott (0-1) took the loss in relief, charged with two earned runs, two hits, one walk, and a hit batsman in 0.1 inning of work. Twins starter Jose Berrios held the Sox bats down allowing just one earned run, five hits, with six strikeouts in 6.1 innings.
David Price will go for Boston in game two of the series Wednesday night at 8:10, to be opposed by Twins righty Lance Lynn.
