The Boston Red Sox offense has been struggling in recent days. That all changed starting in the fourth inning on Thursday afternoon at Target Field.
The Red Sox pounded out a season high 16 hits in a 9-2 win over the Twins. That backed an outstanding pitching performance from Rick Porcello. Brian Dozier hit a double in the first inning. That was the only hit Porcello allowed in seven shutout innings. He walked one and struck out five.
Mookie Betts powered the offensive attack. Betts had three hits, including a home run. Betts was one of seven Red Sox hitters that had at least two hits. Andrew Benintendi had two hits, including a two run homer. Mitch Moreland reached base four times and scored two runs. JD Martinez and Sandy Leon each reached base three times. The Red Sox finished the road trip with a 6-4 record. They will start a six game home stand with a three game series with the Mariners starting Friday night.
