Sharks rout Mammoths at Jacksonville Saturday

The defending National Arena Football League champion Jacksonville Sharks earned their 100th franchise win Saturday night in Jacksonville, Florida by routing the visiting Maine Mammoths 51-21 at Veterans Memorial Arena.

Jacksonville (7-4) beat Maine for the third time this season. Quarterback Adrian McPherson was 20-29 for 211 yards passing with four touchdowns as the Sharks pulled away. Fullback Derrick Ross rushed for three touchdowns, while receiver Chris Gilchrist had 74 yards receiving with a pair of scores. The Sharks have outscored the Mammoths 145-77 over three matchups combined, with one more game head to head on August 4th in Maine in the regular season finale. Maine tied this one at 14 early in the second quarter, before the hosts scored 16 unanswered before the half to make it 30-14 at intermission. The Sharks continued the onslaught by outscoring the Mammoths 21-7 in the second half to roll to the win.

Maine (2-8) started quarterback Jonathan Bane, who went 10-21 for 137 yards for two touchdowns and two interceptions. Kenyatte Allen finished the game as quarterback and went 5-11 passing for 56 yards and a touchdown pass. Receiver Devin Wilson had three catches for 68 yards and a touchdown, while both Edgar Poe Jr and Rob Brown each had just over 40 yards receiving with a score each.

Maine will be back home at the Cross Insurance Arena in Portland next Saturday at 7 pm to face the 7-3 Carolina Cobras, whom they lost to at home 56-42 back on April 14.
