Sox slug their way past the Angels

June 26, 2018

The Boston Red Sox pounded out 13 hits and hit four home runs, and Jackie Bradley Jr. continued his recent hot hitting to help Boston rout the visiting Los Angeles Angels 9-1 at Fenway Park Tuesday night.

Boston started quickly as Mookie Betts hit the first pitch of the game from Los Angeles starting pitcher John Lamb into the Red Sox bullpen for his 20th homer of the season. Bradley hit a two run double in the second, followed by a Andrew Bentintendi RBI double, and a Mitch Moreland RBI single to make it 5-0 and chase Lamb from the game after allowing five runs (three earned) in just 1.2 innings. Bradley, Christian Vazquez, and JD Martinez all added solo homers in the third, fifth, and sixth innings respectively. Bradley picked up his fourth RBI of the night in the bottom of the seventh with a single. Bradley finished with three hits and two runs scored, and now has gotten a hit in six of his last seven plate appearances. The Martinez homer puts him back in first place in the majors with his 24th.

David Price (9-5) gave up just one earned run on a solo homer to Chris Young, and allowed five hits with two walks and seven strikeouts in 6.0 innings of work. Heath Hembree, Brandon Workman, and Justin Haley pitched a hitless and scoreless inning each to finish off the 53rd victory of the season (53-27) for the Sox. Boston has now outscored LA 36-4 in four head to head games so far this season.

Bostons Rick Porcello (9-3) toes the rubber in game two of the series Wednesday night at 7:10. He will be opposed by Angels left hander Andrew Heaney.
