Sabathia, Yanks bat produce rout of Sox in game one

CC Sabathia pitched a solid seven innings, and the New York Yankees hit four homers to cruise to an 8-1 win over the Boston Red Sox Friday night at Yankee Stadium.

New York (53-26) broke open a 1-0 game with four runs in the bottom of the fourth against Boston starter Eduardo Rodriguez. Gleyber Torres made it 2-0 with a sacrifice fly, followed by a two run homer by Miguel Andujar, and a solo shot by Greg Bird to up the advantage to 5-0.

Aaron Judge hit a two run homer and Bird added another solo shot, in the seventh and eighth innings respectively to finish off the Yankee scoring. Andrew Benintendi had the lone Sox RBI with a double in the fifth. Mookie Betts had two hits, and newly acquired Steve Pearce did the same with a double and a single in first two at bats as part of the Red Sox. Boston goes to 55-28 in the loss.

Rodriguez (9-3) went 6.0 innings allowing five earned runs, seven hits, two walks, with two strikeouts. Rodriguez has lost back to back starts for first time this season. Sabathia (5-3) allowed only the one earned run, six hits, one walk, with five strikeouts. The two teams are once again tied for first place in the American League East.

Boston sends Chris Sale to the bump in the second game of the series Saturday night at 7:15. He will be opposed by New Yorks Sonny Gray.
