On Sunday evening, Andrew Benintendi was named as one of the five American League Players on the final vote for the all star team. On Sunday afternoon, Benintendi continued to be one of the hottest hitters in the league.
Benintendi went 4-5, including two runs scored and a double in lifting the Boston Red Sox to a 7-4 win at Kansas City. Benintendi had a hit in each of his first four plate appearances. Steve Pearce continued to hit well since joining the Red Sox. Pearce reached base four times, including going 2-2. Eduardo Nunez also had two hits and two RBI. Xander Bogaerts had two hits and two RBI.
The Red Sox scored three runs in the seventh inning to take a 7-3 lead. Rick Porcello pitched seven solid innings to pick up his 11th win. Porcello allowed three runs on nine hits and one walk, while striking out nine. Kimbrel struck out two in the ninth to pick up his 27th save of the season.
The Red Sox improved their record to 62-29. They finished the road trip with a 7-2 record and have won six straight games. The Red Sox will start a seven game home stand when they take on the Rangers on Monday night with a pitching matchup of Eduardo Rodriguez and Mike Minor scheduled.
