Mookie Betts capped off the most dramatic at bat of the season with a grand slam in the 13th pitch of his at bat against J.A. Happ in the fourth inning on Thursday night at Fenway Park.
Betts had five RBI to lead the Red Sox to a 6-4 win over the Blue Jays. Betts added an RBI single. The Red Sox entered the fourth inning trailing 2-0. The Red Sox took advantage of poor defense from the Blue Jays during the inning. Jackie Bradley JR worked a walk to load the bases and set up the dramatics from Betts.
It is the 10th win in a row for the Red Sox. It is the first time they sit 37 games over .500 (66-29) since the 1949 season.
Bradley JR reached base three times, including two hits and two runs scored. David Price (10-6) allowed three runs on six hits in 6.2 innings. Price didn’t issue a walk and struck out eight. Craig Kimbrel pitched a scoreless ninth inning to earn his 29th save of the season. Rick Porcello will be on the mound for game two of the four game series on Friday night at 7:10.
