Jose Iglesias is a familiar name to Red Sox fans. The former Sox shortstop had two hits and four RBI, including a two run homer to lead the Detroit Tigers to a 5-0 win over the Red Sox on Saturday night at Comerica Park.
The Red Sox out hit the Tigers 8-7 but went 0-5 with runners in scoring position. Mookie Betts and Andrew Benintendi reached base five times and combined to go 4-8.
Brian Johnson (1-3) pitched well in a losing effort. Johnson allowed two unearned runs on five hits and zero walks, while striking out five. Tyler Thornburg struggled, giving up three runs including the homer to Iglesias in the sixth inning.
Mike Fiers (7-6) pitched 6.1 shutout innings, allowing seven hits and three walks, while striking out six for the Tigers.
The series finale is scheduled for Sunday afternoon with Chris Sale set to be on the mound for the Red Sox.
