Former Stearns High School and University of Maine standout point guard Sigi Koizar scored 33 points Saturday to lead her home city of Vienna, Austria (University of Vienna) to the 2018 European University Games title with a 63-53 victory over Toulouse-Jean Juares (France) in Portugal.
Vienna who finished the games at 6-0, got 18.4 points per game from Koizar, who played five of the six games in the tournament. The team from Austria cruised to their first three wins in group stage play, with an average winning margin of 18 points. They defeated Peter the Great University (Russia) 55-44 in the quarterfinals and the University of Valencia (Spain) 66-54 in the semifinals, before finishing off the perfect run in the title game.
Koizar finished her college career in 2017 at Maine, before signing a contract to play professionally in Europe. She finished sixth all time on the UMaine scoring list with 1,671 points. She also recorded double digit scoring in 80 of her career 130 games in her four years with the Black Bears.
