Eovaldi shuts down Yankees as Sox continue to roll

Nathan Eovaldi has started his Boston Red Sox career with 15 scoreless innings after throwing eight shutout innings in a 4-1 win over the New York Yankees at Fenway Park on Saturday afternoon.

Eovaldi allowed only three hits and one walk, while striking four. He threw 93 pitches (65 strikes) . The last pitcher to start his Red Sox career with at least 15 scoreless innings was Billy Rohr in 1967.

The Red Sox started quickly when Mitch Moreland smashed a two run homer to make it 2-0 in the first inning. JD Martinez put his league leading 33rd homer over the green monster in the fourth inning. Sandy Leon had the other RBI on a double in the seventh inning.

The Red Sox have taken the first three games of the four game series outscoring the Yankees 23-9 in the three games. The Red Sox now have a 78-34 record and are 8.5 games ahead of the Yankees at the top of the AL East. The final game of the series will be Sunday night with David Price on the mound for the Red Sox.
