Philadelphia catcher Wilson Ramos returned from the disabled list Wednesday night, and made his return felt with three hits and three RBI to power the Phillies past the Boston Red Sox 7-4 at Citizens Bank Park.
The Sox broke on top first when Mitch Moreland ripped a three run bases loaded double in the top of the third to make it 3-0 Boston. Philadelphia responded in the bottom of the 4th to tie it, when Ramos hit an RBI double, Odubel Herrera grounded into a fielders choice RBI, and Carlos Santana hit an RBI single. Ramos started the bottom of the sixth with a triple, and later scored on a Scott Kingery sacrifice fly RBI to put the Phillies in front to stay 4-3. The hosts added three more in the seventh on a Ramos two run double, and a Maikel Franco RBI single. Boston had the bases loaded and no outs in the top of the eighth, and with two outs ended up getting one back on an infield RBI single by Mookie Betts to end the scoring. Brock Holt had two hits to lead Boston, while Moreland had just the one hit but three RBI, and seven other Red Sox had a hit a piece.
Nathan Eovaldi started on the hill for Boston, and got a no decision allowing three runs (only one earned), seven hits, no walks, with five strikeouts in 5.0 innings. Joe Kelly (4-1) took the loss allowing the game winning run in the sixth inning. Vince Valasquez also got a no decision for Philadelphia allowing three runs, four hits, four walks, and two strikeouts over 2.1 innings. Tommy Hunter (4-2) got the win in relief, while Seranthony Dominguez picked up his 13th save.
Boston heads back home to open a seven game homestand with an off day Thursday, before opening up a three game series with Tampa Bay at Fenway Friday night at 7:10. The Sox send lefty Brian Johnson to the mound, to be opposed by Rays righty Ryne Stanek.
