The PCHS Field Hockey team did not win one game last season. This year behind a strong class of freshmen the Pirates have started the season stronger than ever, that including a win today over the Central Red Devils pushing them to 3-0 on the season, a record they look to improve on.
Coach Emily Wilson knew what she was going to get out of her young freshmen and team as a whole coming into the season, today they showed that in a big 4-1 win over Central with each of the four goals coming from big contributors.
The Pirates opened the scoring just about 7 minutes into the first half when Junior Chelsea Cookson scored on a corner that was assisted by Freshman MaKenzie Kain.
Cookson would put another one in the net before the half, making the score 2-0
Junior Ariona Gerry would score a goal at the beginning of the second half making it 3-0
Hailey Cipullo would add one later in the half giving the Pirates a 4-0 lead
Centrals Brianna Butler would score a goal in the final seconds of the game to stop the shutout but it was not enough as PCHS improves to 3–0 with a 4-1 win.
Central would end the game with only two shots on goal with their goalie making 11 saves.
For PCHS, they had 15 shots on goal and 11 corners with their goalie making only two saves.
Up next for the Pirates, they face a tough matchup with the Foxcroft Acadmey Ponies in Dover-Foxcroft on Monday.
The Red Devils will host the Dexter Tigers on Tuesday.
