DEXTER—- The Mount View Mustangs field hockey team started the season with an 0-3 record. They were outscored 14-1 in those three games. On Saturday morning, the Mustangs started strong and held off Dexter for a 2-0 victory.
Mount View put pressure on in the first five minutes, including a corner opportunity but couldn’t convert. Dexter had a corner at 19:00 but didn’t get a shot attempt from it.
Sophia King gave the Mustangs a 1-0 lead with just over 17 minutes remaining in the first half. King took a pass from Maddie Knowlton with 9:14 left in the half to give Mount View a two goal lead. Dexter had two corners in last minute of first half but couldn’t convert.
The Tigers had the ball on their offensive side the majority of the first part of the second half but only were able to get one shot attempt during that span.
With 16:40 remaining the Tigers had a golden opportunity, with the ball inches from a goal the Mount View defense swatted it away. The pressure continued for Dexter the rest of the half but the tenacious defense from the Mustangs didn’t break.
Mount View (1-3) will host MCI on Tuesday afternoon. Dexter (1-2) will play at Central on Tuesday afternoon.
