Bruce, Syndergaard help Mets beat up on Red Sox

Jay Bruce knocked in four runs and Noah Syndergaard pitched seven scoreless innings Friday night, as the New York Mets beat the Boston Red Sox 8-0 at Fenway Park in the opener of a three game interleague series.

Bruce clubbed an RBI double in the first, and then a three run homer in the third as the Mets dashed out to a 4-0 lead and never looked back. NY hit four homeruns in the game, as they added a solo shot by Jeff McNeil in the fourth, and then a two run homer by Austin Jackson followed by a solo long ball from Amed Rosario in the eighth.

Ian Kinsler had two hits for Boston (101-47) as they only had four in the game. JD Martinez and Mookie Betts had the other two. Bruce, McNeil, and Rosario all had two hits a piece for New York (69-78).

William Cuevas started for Boston in what was a bullpen game for the Sox. Cuevas (0-2) got the loss, and allowed a pair of runs on three hits in 2+ innings. Robby Scott, Brian Johnson, Tyler Thornburg, and Drew Pomeranz combined to allow six earned runs on six hits over the final 7.0 innings of work. Syndergaard (12-3) allowed no runs, three hits, walked three, and struckout six in his 7.0 inning effort. Jerry Blevins and Tyler Bashlor eached pitched one scoreless inning out of the Mets pen.

The Sox and Mets continue their weekend series with the second game on Saturday at 4:05. Rick Porcello toes the rubber for Boston, while Corey Oswalt goes for the Mets.
