Blake Bortles made it look easy in leading the Jacksonville Jaguars to a 31-20 victory over the New England Patriots on Sunday afternoon at Jacksonville.
The Jaguars built a 14-0 lead after the first quarter. With the score 14-3 late in the first half, Bortles connected with Austin Seferian-Jenkins for a four yard touchdown to make the score 21-3 heading to halftime.
Tom Brady connected with Chris Hogan for a seven yard touchdown with 1:42 remaining left in the third quarter. That got the Patriots within 24-10 and gave them some life. That momentum continued early in the fourth quarter when Stephen Gostkowski nailed a 46 yard field goal.
The Patriots couldn’t slow down the Jaguars offense. Bortles and Dede Westbrook connected on a 61 yard touchdown play to put the game away with 7:35 remaining in the fourth quarter.
Hogan did catch his second touchdown pass of the game with 3:40 remaining. The Patriots followed with a failed onsides kick attempt. The Jaguars converted on two first downs and held the ball the rest of the way.
Bortles threw for four touchdowns and 377 yards on 29-45 passing. He also ran for 35 yards on six carries. Keelan Cole had 117 yards and one touchdown on seven receptions for the 2-0 Jaguars.
Brady threw for 235 yards and two touchdowns on 24-35 passing. James White had 74 yards on seven receptions. The Patriots will take a 1-1 record into Detroit and their Sunday night contest next week.
