At Penobscot Valley, Greenville and PVHS came into this game on Saturday afternoon with a 6-1 record, so both teams were hungry from the opening kickoff. The Lakers struck first, just 3:34 into the game when Ben Baldwin received the ball near the right corner. He crossed a low liner toward the 6-yard line, where Chris Caiazzo was there to finish the goal with a 1-touch from his right foot.
The 1-0 score remained most of the first half, until there was 1:04 left to play. Grant Kidon received the ball to the left of the goalposts and attempted a shot, only to have it blocked. The deflection went to Brad McKechnie near the 18-yard line, where he calmly settled in, fired, and snuck it the net off the left post.
The teams remained deadlocked until the 13:42 mark, when McKechnie struck again. His liner from the right side went near the goal-line, deflecting off a Greenville defender and into the back of the net.
Elijah Wood saved 12 of 15 shots for PVHS, who improve to 7-1. Ben Baldwin, who made a few incredible saves, stopped 12 of 23. Greenville drops to 6-2 and travels to Schenck on Tuesday, while Penobscot Valley hosts Bangor Christian Thursday.
