It’s been 106 years since the Red Sox have seen 106 wins, but that all changed Monday night, as the Red Sox got a 6-2 win over the Baltimore Orioles officially clinching home field advantage throughout the playoffs and getting the elusive win 106 breaking the franchise record of 105 set in 1912.
The Red Sox started the game off hot going into the 2nd inning when Brock Holt would double in Steve Pearce to give the Sox a 1-0 lead.
Same inning, Christian Vasquez would tag on another run on a single that would score Holt making it 2-0
Mookie Betts who has been making his case for MVP would send his 32nd home run into the monster seats, this one being a 2-run jack giving the Sox a 4-0 lead.
Going to the 4th, the offense was still rolling, this time Andrew Benintendi would single home Jackie Bradley to give the Sox a 5-0 lead.
Their final run of the game for Boston came from Xander Boegarts, who ripped a line drive to left that would score JD Martinez and giving the Sox a 6-0 lead. Betts, Benintendi, and Bogaerts all had two hits a piece.
The Orioles would go on to score single runs in the 5th and the 8th, capping off the scoring. Renato Nunez led Baltimore (45-111) with three hits.
Nathan Eovaldi (6-7) got the win and pitched five innings only allowing one run for the Sox and striking out 10.
Dylan Bundy (8-16) would only go 3 innings for the Orioles giving up four runs and striking out five in taking the loss.
David Price will take the mound tomorrow for the Sox in game two of the series, in what should be his final tune up start before the postseason starts. First pitch is scheduled for 7:10.
