PCHS Homecoming Filled with Milestones

Homecoming has been a pinnacle for PCHS for years, without a football program students look to Field Hockey and Soccer for their entertainment on the Saturday of homecoming.

A full slate of games was scheduled for September 29th with Field Hockey kicking off the afternoon with a 1pm showdown against Mattanawcook, where PCHS would scored five goals en route to a 5-1 victory to move to 8-3 on the season. Chelsea Cookson led the offensive attack with two goals followed by Ariona Gerry, Martina Hill and Mackenzie Kain each adding one of their own. They face Stearns on Monday afternoon.

Following Field Hockey was Girls Soccer who faced Greenville. After 60 hard minutes of holding Greenville to a draw PCHS would give up three goals to fall to Greenville 3–0. They will host Howland Tuesday afternoon.

In between games PCHS held their first annual Hall of Fame induction which featured some prominent names such as Donna Jordan, who coached Field Hockey for years and would lead PCHS to many titles in the late 80’s and early 90’s. Dave Gaw, who is a well known PCHS Basball Coach for many years. Charles Sweeney, the man who founded the Boys Soccer Program at PCHS. Joseph Riitano Sr. who went in as a contributor, has contributed to PCHS sports for years. Peggy “Riitano” Genoa who was a High School Girls Basketball standout and would go onto be a Husson standout en route to being inducted into the Maine Basketball Hall of Fame. Other notable inductees are Fred Blake and the 1946 Guilford High School Golden Panthers Basketball Team.

Following the induction the PCHS Boys faced Greenville under the lights at home for the first time in program history to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the boys soccer program at PCHS. Caleb Willis would put the Pirates on the board in the first half to tie the game at 1 before Greenville would take 2-1 in the second half. In what was a hard fought second half by both teams, PCHS would score with under 2 minutes left in the game with a goal by Caleb Crocker to tie the game at 2 and send it to overtime. Greenville would go onto win the game just a little over 5 minutes into overtime and would win 3-2 to cap off a spectacular homecoming.

it was all proceeded by a fireworks show that was shot off from the softball field.
