Goaltender Jaroslav Halak stopped all 32 shots he faced in his first start with the Boston Bruins Thursday night, and Brad Marchand had four assists as Boston picked up their first win of the 2018-19 season with a 4-0 blanking of the Buffalo Sabres at KeyBank Center in Buffalo.
After a 7-0 loss Wednesday night to Washington in the season opener, Boston came out with avengance getting a Zdeno Chara goal and a Ryan Donato powerplay marker in the first to make it 2-0. David Pastrnak added a goal in the middle period, and Patrice Bergeron added one shorthanded in the third for 1-1 Boston. Bergeron also added an assist in the game.
Carter Hutton stopped 22 of 25 shots in net for the 0-1 Sabres.
Boston is now off until Monday when they host the Ottawa Senators in the home opener at 1 pm.
