The postseason struggles for David Price continued Saturday night. Price gave up three early runs and exited in the second inning, and Masahiro Tanaka pitched five solid innings as the New York Yankees evened the best of five American League Division Series at 1-1 with a 6-2 victory at Fenway Park.
Aaron Judge continued his postseason tear with a solo homer in the first inning. Gary Sanchez then did the same in the second into the monster seats making it 2-0, before an RBI single from Andrew Mccutcheon ended the night for Price.
The Boston bullpen did well though keeping the Sox within striking distance. Xander Bogaerts got the home team on the board with a solo homer into the center field bleachers in the fourth to cut it to 3-1. Sanchez finally broke the game open in the seventh inning, taking Eduardo Rodriguez deep over the monster in left center for a three run homer to make it 6-1. Ian Kinsler got one back with an RBI double in the bottom of the inning.
Price (0-1) takes the loss allowing three runs, three hits, and two walks in 1.2 innings. Joe Kelly, Ryan Brasier, Brandon Workman, and Heath Hembree all were solid allowing no runs out of the Boston pen. Tanaka (1-0) only allowed one run, three hits, one walk, with four strikeouts in his 5.0 innings of work. Dellin Betances had a hold, as Betances, Zach Britton, and Aroldis Chapman only allowed two hits and a run over the final four innings. Boston had five different players with one hit each, while Judge and Sanchez had two hits a piece for New York. It was also the first time in his career that Mookie Betts did not reach base in a postseason game (0-4).
Game three will take place Monday night at 7:40 pm at Yankee Stadium in New York. Rick Porcello is expected to toe the rubber for the Sox, while Luis Severino is scheduled for the Yankees.
