October 8th- PVHS 4 Bangor Christian 0
The Penobscot Valley Howlers boys took a nine-game winning streak to Bangor Monday, as they faced off against the Bangor Christian Patriots. Seven minutes into the game, Reece Carter chipped a ball past mid-field where Zach Doore quickly settled it to his feet. Doore was able to split two defenders as he streaked toward the 18 yard line. He fired a shot, which deflected off a Patriot defender and into the net. Doore would strike again about four minutes later. The play started near the Howler’s net, as Bangor Christian sent a throw-in inside the 18. Doore corralled it and zipped upfield, as PVHS looked to make a counter-attack. After a give-and-go with Brad McKechnie at midfield, Zach passed the ball to Grant Kidon near the 18, who immediately dropped it back to Doore. Doore 1-touched a rocket up into the left corner. The score remained 2-0 at the half.
About 11 minutes into the 2nd half, Doore completed his hat trick by scoring on a corner kick. Zach sent a low curving liner toward the near post, which deflected off BC goalkeeper Jeremiah McNally’s hands and into the net. The final goal also came on a counter-attack from the Howlers, with 18 minutes left in the game. A blocked shot attempt by midfielder Zach Mitchell ended up by Zach Doore’s feet at the 18, where he quickly carried the ball toward midfield. Doore sent a perfect lead pass to Alex Tash, who had one man to beat. Tash got a step on the defender, and put a low shot into the right hand corner. 4-0 would be the final score.
Elijah Wood saved 12 of 18 shots for the Howlers. Penobscot Valley improves to 11-1, and extended their winning streak to ten games. PVHS currently sits atop of the Class D North standings, and will host Penquis Valley on Friday.
Jeremiah McNally saved 6 of 23 shots for the Patriots, who slipped to 4-7-1. They will host Deer Isle on Friday.
