The University of Maine men’s ice hockey team prepared for Fridays season opener on Monday night, taking down the University of Prince Edward Island 6-1 in a preseason exhibition matchup at Alfond Arena.
Maine got two goals and an assist each from junior Mitchell Fossier and freshman Jacob Schmidt-Svejstrup. Eduards Tralmaks added a goal and an assist, and defensemen Brady Keeper and Rob Michel added two assists a piece. Freshman Adam Dawe also scored a goal.
All three goalies saw action playing a period a piece. Jeremy Swayman stopped all four shots he faced in first, while Stephen Mundinger stopped all 15 in the second. Rob McGovern made eight of nine in the final period. Luke Kirwan had the lone tally for UPEI, who was playing their third game in as many nights.
Maine opens the regular season on Friday at 7 pm as ECAC opponent St Lawrence skates into the Alfond for a two game non conference series.
