Brock Holt hit for the first cycle in postseason history and Nathan Eovaldi pitched seven strong innings to lift the Boston Red Sox to a 16-1 win over the New York Yankees in game three of the American League Division Series at Yankee Stadium on Monday evening.
The Red Sox took an early 3-0 lead and exploded for seven runs in the fourth inning to take a comfortable 10-0 lead. Holt capped off a two run homer in the ninth inning to cap off the cycle. Holt also scored three runs and drove in five.
Mookie Betts, Andrew Benintendi, Xander Bogaerts, Rafael Devers, and Christian Vazquez had two hits each. Benintendi reached base four times and drove in three. Betts and J.D. Martinez reached base three times and had two RBI each.
Eovaldi allowed one run on five hits. He didn’t issue a walk and struck out five. The Red Sox lead the best of five series 2-1 with game four scheduled for Tuesday night at Yankee Stadium. Rick Porcello and C.C. Sabathia is the scheduled pitching matchup.
