Maine womens hockey starts 4-0

The University of Maine womens ice hockey team opened up their home schedule by hosting the Sacred Heart Pioneers in a two game weekend series at Alfond Arena Friday and Saturday afternoons. Maine came out on top 8-0 in both games to improve to 4-0 on the season.

In game one Friday afternoon, Maine used a five goal second to really stretch out a 2-0 lead and cruise to the win putting 52 shots on goal which is a school record. Daria Tereshkina scored two goals and had an assist, Liga Miljone added a goal and two assists, Tereza Vanisova added an a goal and an assist, and Maddie Giordano added two assists in the home victory. Ali Beltz, Cailey Hutchinson, Brittany Colton, and Ally Johnson all added goals. Loryn Porter made 10 saves for the shutout and hasn’t allowed any goals in 120 minutes so far this season. Sarah Erban made 44 saves in the loss for SHU.

In game two Saturday it was more of the same, as Maine used a four goal outburst to bury the Pioneers.

Vendula Pribylova had two goals and three assists, Celine Tedenby added a goal and two assists, and Milijone had a goal and an assist. Vanisova, Beltz, Colton, and Lydia Murray added goals in the fourth straight win for Maine. Juniors Carly Jackson and Jillian Flynn each played in net and combined for 13 saves, with Jackson getting the win. Frankie Sanchez made 34 saves for 2-2 Sacred Heart.

Maine gets into Hockey East play next Friday and Saturday when they travel to Northeastern and Boston University, respectively. Game time Friday is 2 pm at NU, and 4 pm Saturday against the Terriers.
