Despite outplaying the Vancouver Canucks for most of the game Saturday night, the Boston Bruins dropped their second consecutive overtime game when Bo Horvat scored in the extra session at Rogers Arena in Vancouver to give the hosts a 2-1 win.
Brandon Sutter scored first just 3:40 into the game to make it 1-0 Canucks. Boston would later tie it up 1-1 on a wristshot Joakim Nordstrom with 12:15 left in regulation. The Bruins dominated the third period and had several great chances to take the lead but were unable to do so. Boston goalie Jaroslav Halak also made several key saves, including two in front of his own goal on former UMaine standout Ben Hutton as the puck was bouncing near the goal in the final seconds of the third period. Horvat buried the game winner off a 2 on 1 rush with Brock Boeser. Boeser faked a shot just inside the blue line, and passed to Horvat coming down the left wing. Horvat faked a quick one time shot, and deked out Halak and buried a backhanded shot into the half empty cage at 3:12 of overtime.
Halak stopped 20 of 22 shots in the loss, while Canucks goalie Jacob Markstrom stopped 30 of 31 in the win. The Bruins were 0-3 on the powerplay, while the Canucks were 0-1. Boston drops to 4-2-2, and are winless in three straight games. Vancouver improves to 5-3-0.
Boston finishes up a four game road trip with a stop in Ottawa to battle the Senators Tuesday night at 7:30 pm.
