The #10 University of Maine women’s ice hockey team opened up their Hockey East schedule with games in Boston on the weekend, with stops at Northeastern and Boston University.
At #9 Northeastern Friday, the Huskies got one goal in each period to down the Bears and send them to their first loss with a 3-0 shutout win.
Brooke Hobson, Tori Sullivan, and Kasidy Anderson had the tallies for NU, while their goalie Aerin Frankel made 25 saves. Carly Jackson made 22 saves on 25 shots in the loss. NU improves to 3-1-1, 2-0-1 in Hockey East.
At Boston University on Sunday afternoon, Daria Tereshkinas second period goal proved to be the game winner, as Maine bounced back and picked up their first league win with a 2-1 win over the Terriers.
Vendula Pribylova scored the other Bears goal in the first period, as they held on despite a late third period goal from Abby Cook of BU. BU drops to 1-2-3, 1-2-3 HE.
Corinne Schroeder made 28 saves in the loss for the Terriers. Loryn Porter got the win with 22 stops, and also giving up her first goal of the year that broke a scoreless streak of 178 minutes and 32 seconds.
Maine is now 5-1, 1-1 in Hockey East and will host UNH Friday night at 6 pm, and then #6 Boston College Sunday at 2 pm.
