David Price pitched seven strong innings, and Steve Pearce hit two homers to lead the Boston Red Sox to a World Series clinching 5-1 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers on Sunday night at Dodgers Stadium.
Pearce hit a two run home run in the first inning to get the scoring started. J.D. Martinez and Mookie Betts each hit a solo home run. Martinez had two hits.
Price won two games in the five game series and won his last three postseason starts. Price allowed one run on three hits and two walks while striking out five. Price was pitching on one day rest as he came in for relief in game three, after starting game two. Joe Kelly and Chris Sale each pitched a scoreless inning of relief. Pearce was named World Series MVP.
The Red Sox won 108 regular season games and 119 overall including postseason. They never had more than a three game losing streak all season. They went 11-3 in the postseason, including defeating two 100 plus win teams in the American League playoffs and also went 7-1 on the road during the run to the trophy. This is the fourth World Championship for the Red Sox in the last 15 years, and the 11th major sports title for the city in 17 years.
