David Pastrnak had a hat trick, and Jarolslav Halak made 40 saves Saturday night as the Boston Bruins beat the Toronto Maple Leafs 5-1 at TD Garden in a big early season Atlantic Division matchup.
After an embarrassing 8-5 loss to Vancouver Thursday night where Boston gave up five second period goals, the Bruins played with a vengeance on this night. Patrice Bergeron scored in the first period on an assist from Pastrnak, before Pastrnak got his scoring started with a full strength and a powerplay goal in the middle period to give Boston a 3-0 lead. John Tavares got the Leafs on the board in the second, before Pastrnak finished off his hat trick with a powerplay goal in the third and Joakim Nordstrom scored 26 seconds later to finish the scoring.
Boston (9-5-2) was 2-4 on the powerplay, while Toronto was 0-3. The Leafs outshot the Bruins 41-34. Garret Sparks made 29 saves in the loss for the 11-6 Leafs. Pastrnak now has 15 goals in 16 games. Boston will host the Las Vegas Knights Sunday night at 7 pm.
