CAA Champion Black Bears get bye, home playoff game

The newly crowned CAA Champion Maine Black Bears football team found out their NCAA playoff fate during the NCAA FCS playoff selection show on Sunday afternoon.

Maine (8-3) was selected as the #7 overall seed in the tournament of the 24 teams making the field. The Black Bears clinched the conference title with a 27-26 win over Elon in Orono on Saturday. Five other teams from the CAA will also participate in the playoffs that start next week. Elon, Towson, Stony Brook, Delaware, and James Madison are the other league participants.

Maine will get a first round bye, and then will host the winner of East Tennessee State and Jacksonsville State in Orono at Alfond Stadium on Saturday, December 1 at 12 pm. East Tennessee St. (8-3) was the co-champions of the Southern Conference. Jacksonville St. (8-3) won their fifth straight Ohio Valley Conference title. The Buccaneers and Gamecocks play next Saturday at 7:30 pm, with the winner then treking north to Maine.
