The Foxcroft Ponies girls basketball team will bring a more experience group into the 2018/2019 season.
“We finished last year at 5-13. We were very young but now we have some real varsity experience coming into this season as we only graduated two seniors,”Foxcroft coach Blake Smith said. “Makenzie Beaudry will be one of our returning seniors and has the most varsity experience on the team. She will hopefully be giving us a good chunk of our offense and will be an excellent rebounder. Makenzie was a second team Big East All-Conference selection last year and was among the leaders in scoring and rebounding.”
Cailin Seavey also brings experience to the Ponies lineup. Cassidy Marsh started as a sophomore last season.
“My next most experienced player is Cailin Seavey and she is my only other senior. Cailin does a great job as a playmaker on offense. She really sees the floor well and we will look to her to be a leader on floor,” Smith said. “Cassidy Marsh, a junior, is another returning starter that is very well rounded. She can shoot, drive, and pass the ball well. We are looking for her to play a big role.”
The Ponies have three more in the junior class that will see increase in minutes.
“Jenna Anderson and Natalie Robinson are two juniors that will be competing to fill the forward vacancy left by a graduated player from last year. Jenna has a good knowledge of the game and can be a threat both inside and from the perimeter. Natalie does a good job rebounding and posting up,”Smith said. “Karis Dankert is our last junior. Karis has a great understanding of the game and will be able to play several roles for us.”
The Ponies round out the roster with four sophomores and two freshmen.
“Ainsley Ade is a returning sophomore starter. Ainsley is very athletic and can score from the perimeter and off the dribble. Ainsley was our second leading scorer as a freshman and has been putting a lot of time into her game during the off season. Another sophomore, Ava Rayfield, will be playing a significant part in the guard position. Ava is very quick and an excellent defender. She shoots the ball well and sees the floor well. Sophomore, Sheryl Chase, will be another utility player that can be in several positions. She plays with extreme effort and heart. Miranda Poulin is our last sophomore. She has a knack for being the right place at the right time. Her release is very quick and she has a good nose for the ball,”Smith said. “Rounding out are roster are two freshmen. Meghan Spooner has many good skills. She has height enough to play in the post and abilities to handle and shoot the ball from the guard position. Her classmate, Kiya Cook, has very good skills as well. Kiya is a threat anywhere on the floor. She has great instincts defensively and will be an impact player.”
Schedule: Foxcroft opens the season on December 7th at the Cross Insurance Center against John Bapst. The home opener is December 12th against MDI in a game that can be seen live at whoufm.com.
