The University of Maine-Augusta women’s basketball team finished up the first half of their schedule over the weekend, finishing strong with four straight wins including three in a row in Yankee Small College Conference play.
After an exciting non-conference victory at Thomas College in overtime last Tuesday night, and a conference win in Unity on Wednesday, the Moose swept Hampshire College at Amherst, Mass on Saturday before topping Paul Smiths College Sunday in Auburn also in YSCC play.
-Saturday the Moose built a 27 point halftime lead, cruising past Hampshire 75-43.
Caitlin Lafountain led UMA with 20 points and seven rebounds. Sidney Moore scored 18 points, while Emily Billings and Catherine Sanborne put in 10 points a piece. Cori Cannavino led Hampshire (1-8, 1-8 YSCC) with 16 points.
-Sunday at Central Maine Community College, the Moose did more of the same taking a huge early lead and cruising to that fourth straight win 84-30 over Paul Smiths College.
Moore led UMA with 21 points. Lafountain had 19 points and 15 rebounds. Billings put in 15 points, while freshman Cassidy Lessner came off the bench to score 10 points and freshman Sydney Lablanc also came off the bench to put in nine. Nyasia Carroll-Jackson led the Bobcats (3-7, 1-5) with 16 points.
-Also on Sunday, the UMA men picked up their third YSCC win and third overall by getting 43 points from Dustin Simpson-Bragg and 16 from Noah Thompson to top Paul Smiths 82-79 in overtime. Thompson also recorded his 1,000th career point.
-The Moose women are now 5-7 overall, 4-3 in YSCC. UMA is back in action January 5th when they face Springfield Tech at the Holiday Inn New Years Tournament at NHTI at 2 pm.
