EAST CORINTH- The Central Red Devils held George Stevens without a field goal in two quarters and rolled to a 43-26 win in a class C girls basketball game on Monday night.
The teams went back and fourth with three lead changes in the first quarter and the Red Devils holding a 10-9 lead at the end of the first eight minutes. Central scored the first five points of the second quarter and went on to out score George Stevens 14-5 in the quarter to take a 24-14 halftime advantage. The Eagles went 5-10 from the free throw line in that second quarter.
The teams played a 9-9 third quarter before the Red Devils put the game away by holding George Stevens to three free throws in the fourth quarter and out scoring the Eagles 12-3 in the final eight minutes.
Rachel Smith led the Red Devils with 11 points, seven rebounds, and two steals. Emilee Cohen recorded 10 points, seven rebounds, and two assists. Alison Shaw also had 10 points. Alyse Campbell put in six points and grabbed four rebounds. Madison Speed filled up the stat sheet with three points, six rebounds, four steals, and two assists. Kelsee Bragdon chipped in with two points while Gabrielle Poulin had one. Central (2-0) will travel to Lee Academy on Saturday.
Evelyn Dagan scored 11 points to lead the Eagles. Julianna Allen recorded 10 points, seven steals, four rebounds, and two assists. Mallory Charrette put in three points while Sophia Biggie chipped in with two points. George Stevens (0-2) will host Narraguagus on Wednesday.
Central out rebounded George Stevens 32-23. Central had 16 turnovers while George Stevens had 24. The Red Devils shot 6-15 from the free throw line while the Eagles shot 8-14.
