At Howland, Penobscot Valley used a strong second half to propel the Howlers to a 62-41 win over the Bangor Christian Patriots.
The first half saw a battle, as the teams were tied 15-15 after the first quarter, and 25-25 at halftime. Elijah Wood scored 14 of his game-high 27 points in the first half for the Howlers, while Brad McKechnie had six at the break. Bangor Christian rode the hot shooting of Brady Reed (12 points including two 3-pointers) and Kaeden Robert (10 points including two 3-pointers) in the first half, as they scored 22 of BC’s 25 points.
In the third quarter, Reece Carter carried the scoring load, as he hit back to back 3’s to open the quarter, and scored 11 of the Howler’s 18 points. Penobscot Valley tightened up their defense, holding the Patriots to nine points in both the 3rd and 4th quarters.
Offensively, the fourth quarter belonged to Wood, as he put in 10 points to help put Bangor Christian away.
Wood finished with 27 points, while Carter, Alex Tash, and McKechnie finished with 11, 8, and 7 respectively. Carter also finished with 9 rebounds. For Bangor Christian, Reed and Robert had 19 and 15 points.
PVHS improved to 1-1 while Bangor Christian dropped to 0-2.
