BANGOR, Me- The Husson Eagles outscored UMaine-Fort Kent 22-7 in the fourth quarter Friday night en route to a 60-48 non-conference women’s basketball win at Newman Gymansium.
Both teams had six point leads in a tightly contested first half. UMFK (9-2) led by six in the opening quarter and led 15-14 after the opening 10 minutes, while Husson built a six point second quarter advantage and held a 30-26 lead at halftime. Tajaheray McMahan gave the lead back to the Bengals with a jump shot with 6:12 left in the third at 34-32, and the visitors led 41-38 headed to the final stanza. Husson (4-4) got back even in the fourth on a Sami Ireland layup 48-48, and then finished the last 6:03 of the game on a 12-0 run to get the win. Logan Huckins scored six of those points, with Emma Alley adding four to help the Eagles to the victory.
Huckins led four players in double figures for Husson with 15 points. Alley added 13 and seven rebounds. Megan Peach also added 11 points and 11 rebounds, while Joan Overman chipped in 10 points and nine rebounds. The Eagles were without leading scorer Kenzie Worcester who was in the concussion protocol. McMahan led UMFK with 18 points and nine rebounds. Trinity Washington added eight points and 13 rebounds, while Madison Fenner also chipped in eight points. The Bengals saw their eight game winning streak snapped in the loss.
Husson is now off on holiday break, until they face Saint Benedict in a post holiday tournament in Nashville, Tennessee on Saturday, December 29.
