EAST CORINTH- Olivia Henderson made two three pointers in the fourth quarter to help the Houlton Shiretonwers defeat Central 46-40 in a class C girls basketball game played Saturday afternoon.
Houlton jumped out to a 9-6 lead after the first quarter behind five points from Abby Worthley. The teams played an even second quarter (7-7) and third quarter (13-13).
Central scored the first four points of the fourth quarter to take a 30-29 lead with seven minutes left. Shires coach Shawn Graham called a timeout to slow down the momentum. Houlton followed that up with strong defense and Henderson making her big shots from long range.
The Shires only shot 5-15 from the free throw line in the first three quarters. They shot 7-9 in the final quarter to secure the victory. Central shot 9-19 from the line, including 4-10 in the final quarter.
Alison Shaw led the Red Devils with 13 points, four steals, and three assists. Madi Speed had nine points (all in the second half), Emilee Cohen put in six points and grabbed nine rebounds, Gabrielle Poulin and Alyse Campbell added four points each, Lexi Reardon made a three pointer, Rachel Smith made one free throw. Central (4-1) will play Thursday, December 27th against Searsport at 3:15 PM at the Cross Insurance Center
Worthley finished with 13 points and six rebounds. Olivia Henderson also put in 13 points. Mia Henderson filled up the stat sheet with seven points, six rebounds, and five steals. Kennedy Buzzeo and Rebecca Howe scored four points each, while Emma Ariel scored one point and blocked two shots. Houlton (2-2) will next play on Friday, December 28th at 11:45 AM in a game that can been seen on WHOU.
