The Central Red Devils warm up before their game at Dexter on Tuesday, January 15th.
DEXTER- The Central Red Devils battled back from a double digit deficit to defeat the Dexter Tigers 33-32 in a class C girls basketball game played Tuesday night at Ed Guiski gymnasium.
Dexter held a 13-4 lead at the end of the first quarter and expanded the lead in the second quarter. Central rallied to cut the deficit to 20-14 at the half. A big point of the game was when Red Devils Coach Jamie Russell decided to put Alison Shaw back in the game with three fouls mid second quarter. Shaw was able to help her team defensively even with the three fouls. She had seven points in the first half, including a three pointer in the second quarter.
Central rallied to even the score behind seven third quarter points from Emilee Cohen. Cloe Mountain gave the Tigers a 26-24 lead heading to the fourth quarter.
The fourth quarter featured four lead changes, with Cohen scoring the last basket with 1:22 remaining to give the Red Devils a big win
It is the second consecutive game between Dexter and Central decided by one point. On Saturday, Dexter won 25-24 on a Peyton Grant three pointer in overtime.
Avery Herrick scored a game high 18 points for the Tigers. Peyton Grant put in eight points (all in the first half). Dexter (7-3) will travel to Mattanawcook on Thursday.
Cohen and Shaw each finished with 12 points for the Red Devils. Cohen also had nine rebounds. Alyse Campbell had six points and six rebounds. Central (7-4) will host Sumner on Saturday.
Central out rebounded Dexter 21-15. Central shot 6-13 from the free throw line, Dexter shot 4-7 (0-3 in the second half).
