Blanca Millan poured in 29 points and Maine used a big third quarter Sunday afternoon, en route to a 95-66 America East win over Binghamton at the Cross Insuance Arena in Bangor on Alumni weekend.
Maine (13-7, 6-1 America East) opened up a 10 point first quarter lead, and led 17-10 after the opening 10 minutes of play. The Bears later increased the lead to 11 in the second, before Binghamton closed to within 33-28 with 2:15 left. A layup from Millan, a three pointer by Dor Saar, and an unconventional three point play by Millan pushed it to the biggest first half lead at 41-28. Maine led 41-32 at halftime. At halftime, Maine honored many of the former Black Bears women’s players that were in attendance including some notable names in Kissy Walker, Rachel Bouchard, and Liz Coffin among many others. The hosts overtook the third quarter outscoring the Bearcats 35-18 and pulling away. Millan had 10 third quarter points to lead the charge. The third quarter explosion was the most points in a quarter in school history. The Black Bears led by as many as 32 in the fourth quarter.
Millan shot 11-19 from the floor, and added six rebounds to her game high point total. Parise Rossignol added 14 points, Dor Saar had 11 points while also adding nine assists and five rebounds, and Tanesha Sutton chipped in 10 points. It was reported Sutton had suffered an injury and may miss some time, but started and played 27 minutes Sunday. Kai Moon led Binghamton with 15 points. Carly Boland had 12. Olivia Ramil and Rebecca Carmody each chipped in 10, as the Bearcats dropped to 8-12 overall, 3-4 in conference. Maine shot 49 percent from the floor, and 11-28 from three point range (39%). Binghamton shot just 36 percent, and 5-26 (26%) from behind the arc. The Black Bears also had 23 team assists and a season low four turnovers in the game.
Maine will stay at home and welcome UMass-Lowell into the Cross Insurance Center on Wednesday evening at 7 pm.
