At Howland Saturday night, Elijah Wood Erupted for a career-high 29 points to lead the Howlers past the Minutemen 94-51 at George Sereyko Memorial Gym.
Penobscot Valley got rolling immediately with a 29-point first quarter, initially led by Grant Kidon who knocked down three early 3-pointers. Wood’s 11 points and Reece Carter’s seven (along with Kidon’s nine) contributed to 27 of those 29 points, as they led by 16. Jake Kowalski tried to keep Stearns in it, hitting three 3-pointers of his own in the quarter.
PVHS extended their lead 51-27 at the break, and continued their torrid pace in the third, building a 76-38 advantage going into the 4th.
The Howlers ended with five players in double figures, with Wood (29), Carter (13), Kidon (12), Lance Neal (12), and Alex Tash (11) all reaching that plateau. Tash also finished with six assists, and Brad McKechnie scored eight. Stearns was led by Freshman Elliot Shearer’s 14 points, While Kowalski (12) and Caleb York (11) each had a solid scoring game as well.
Penobscot Valley improves to 12-2, and remains in sixth place in the standings. They will travel to Penquis of Milo on Tuesday. Stearns drops to 1-11 and will play at Houlton Tuesday.
